Matthew Gilbo is a well-respected and trusted Georgia personal injury and workers’ compensation attorney who has built his career on advocating for injured individuals and workers navigating complex legal systems. Licensed to practice law in Georgia since 2019 and admitted to the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Georgia, Matthew is known for his steady demeanor and strategic advocacy.

Matthew joined Montlick in 2025, bringing extensive workers’ compensation litigation experience and a comprehensive understanding of the claims process from both the defense and plaintiff perspectives. He works to ensure his clients receive the medical care, compensation, and income benefits the law provides. In addition to his continued workers’ compensation practice, Matthew also represents clients in a wide range of personal injury matters, applying the same clarity and guidance to individuals injured through the negligence of others. Whether addressing contested fault, medical issues, challenging insurer decisions, or helping a client understand what comes next, Matthew is committed to being the advocate an injured person can trust when everything feels uncertain.

Before joining Montlick, Matthew began his legal career in workers’ compensation insurance defense, representing employers and insurers. He later transitioned to the plaintiff side, ultimately serving as Senior Attorney and advocating on behalf of injured workers. This combination of experience gives him a unique vantage point in handling all types of personal injury cases, allowing him to anticipate opposing strategies, counter insurer tactics effectively, and provide empowering representation that helps clients understand their rights and protect their futures.

Matthew received his undergraduate degree with honors from Georgia College & State University with a degree in Criminal Justice. In 2019, Matthew earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law. During law school, he gained valuable experience under Georgia’s Third Year Practice Act through the Habeas Project, handling impactful habeas corpus matters, achieving successful petitions and defending indigent prisoners from wrongful convictions. This work strengthened his resolve to advocate for vulnerable individuals and reinforced his commitment to legal work that meaningfully changes lives.

Matthew was originally drawn to the legal profession by a desire to help people in their most desperate time of need, a calling shaped by the compassion and generosity he witnessed in his parents. His values center on service, fairness, and meeting people in their most difficult moments with support and integrity. One guiding principle in his work is the belief that “the only limits are those you set for yourself,” a mindset that informs both his client advocacy and his own professional growth.

Although born in Michigan, Matthew grew up in Georgia and has built his life and career here. He now lives in Kennesaw, where he enjoys playing golf and spending time with his wife and their two golden retrievers and supporting local animal welfare efforts, including volunteer work with the Paw Project of Georgia. Guided by compassion and integrity, Matthew strives to ensure every injured individual and worker he serves feels protected, supported, and equipped to move toward a safer and more secure future.
