Tragic Three Vehicle Crash on Interstate 95 Kills One in Carolina County, Virginia (VA)

May 18, 2020

CAROLINA COUNTY, VA- writes that a man died in a three-vehicle collision in Carolina County this week. The wreck occurred on Interstate 95 in the southbound lanes. The accident happened in the evening when a driver in a 2010 Ford F-150 was driving northbound on the interstate. For unknown reasons, the 48-year-old operating the pickup truck drifted across the median and into oncoming traffic.*

The Ford collided head-on with a 2004 Honda Pilot, and the Pilot then struck a 2007 Honda Accord that was also driving southbound at the time.

The 54-year-old Arlington man in the Pilot died at the scene from the injuries he suffered in the impact. The man driving the Ford suffered severe injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. The 41-year-old in the Accord also sustained injuries in the wreck.

All of the drivers involved were using their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Police believe that speed might have played a role in the tragic accident. The Virginia State Police are still investigating the collision. An Accident Reconstruction Team is working to understand the details of the incident.

Speeding is one of the main factors that lead to fatal car crashes. In 2018, crashes caused by drivers who were speeding led to 9,378 deaths. Speed limits are in place to protect road users. Even driving at the speed limit can be dangerous when the road conditions are poor. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) points out that speeding motorists not only endanger themselves but anyone else using the road as well.

When a driver speeds, they increase the likelihood that they will lose control of their vehicle while also reducing the effectiveness of the vehicle's safety equipment.
