Pedestrian Tragically Killed in Traffic Collision on I-73 in Greensboro, North Carolina
GREENSBORO, NC. – According to an online news story reported at myfox8.com, a pedestrian was tragically killed in a traffic collision that occurred on Interstate 73 in Greensboro, North Carolina. The victim has been identified by investigators, but information about the driver of the vehicle has not been released.*
The accident took place in the early morning by Hilltop Road on the southbound side of I-73. The Greensboro Police Department and Fox 8 report that at about 3:30 a.m., a pedestrian was walking in a southbound lane of travel on the interstate. The report does not say whether the pedestrian was walking with or against traffic or was perhaps trying to cross the interstate.
Near Hilltop, officers say a 2015 Jeep Cherokee that had been headed south on I-73 ran into the pedestrian. The report did not indicate whether the driver of the Jeep saw the pedestrian or whether the accident was potentially avoidable. Police have not listed all of the factors involved in the accident, but officers were said to have ruled out speeding and driver impairment during preliminary investigation of the case.
Fox 8 reports that the pedestrian was tragically killed in the crash. Police officers identified him as a 29-year-old man from Archdale, North Carolina.
The driver of the Jeep has not been identified by authorities. It is not clear from the report how many people were inside the Jeep when the accident took place or whether anyone in the vehicle was injured in the accident.
The Greensboro Police Department is still investigating the crash. At the time that the Fox 8 report was posted online, officers had not provided additional information about the investigation or the accident. It is not currently clear if charges are expected to be filed.
