Teenage Brothers Killed in Car Crash in Coweta County, Georgia

January 26, 2019

COWETA COUNTY, GA. – According to a news story posted online at, two teenage brothers were killed in a January 20 car crash in Coweta County, Georgia. The cause of the accident remains unclear. The boys’ names have been released, and their father has issued a statement.*

On January 20, 17-year-old Kahlil Royston and 16-year-old Joshua Royston, both of Newnan, Georgia, were driving northbound on Smokey Road in Coweta County. Kahlil was driving and was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed. He tried to drive around a left curve in the roadway and lost control. The vehicle veered off the roadway and flew into the air, then struck several trees.

Both boys were wearing their seat belts at the time, according to authorities, and both air bags deployed. Firefighters had to extricate them, and emergency responders found that Joshua had not survived the crash. The 16-year-old boy was declared deceased at the scene.

Kahlil was critically injured, and a medical helicopter flew him to Atlanta Medical Center. The Coweta County Coroner’s Office reports that Kahlil died of his injuries at the hospital.

The tragic loss of two young lives has left the Newnan community in mourning. The boys’ father, Pastor Kevin Royston, published a statement to the public regarding the accident.

The statement read: “Kahlil and Joshua will be missed dearly. God performed a miracle in a different way than we thought, but he still performed a miracle. Kahlil’s organs will be used to be a blessing for persons in need. We have to have faith to change a situation, but we also have to have faith to deal with a situation when God doesn’t do it the way we though. Continue to pray for our strength as we move forward.”
