Georgia Accident Attorneys, Montlick & Associates, Distributes Important Driver Safety Information about Tire Blowouts

A tire blowout is dangerous and scary at any speed, but especially when traveling on Georgia's congested roadways. That's why the Georgia Accident Attorneys at Montlick & Associates are encouraging all Georgia drivers to watch the video posted at the top of this page and to download the firm's latest safety guide on what to do - and what not to do- during a tire blowout. Knowing what steps to take in the immediate aftermath of a tire blowout will help you take control, and avoid the panic that can lead to serious, and even deadly, car crashes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, if you do experience a tire blowout, it is extremely important to adhere to the following do's and don'ts:

  1. Do not step on the brake. It can be your first instinct, but it is the worst mistake you can make. Applying the brakes will cause an even greater imbalance in vehicle stability.
  2. Do not abruptly release your foot from the gas pedal. This causes the vehicle to transfer more weight from rear tires to front tires and can lead to greater loss of control.
  3. Do release the gas pedal gradually. Correct the steering to help regain control - look where you want to go and steer in that direction.
  4. Do continue to slow down once your vehicle has stabilized.
  5. Do pull off the road as soon as you determine that it is safe to do so.
