Atlanta Injury Attorneys, Montlick & Associates, Reviews Important Safeguards to Protect Kids from Bounce House Injuries
Summertime is primetime for inflatable bounce houses. But as sales have skyrocketed, so have reports of hurt children. That's why the Atlanta Injury Attorneys from Montlick & Associates created the video and safety guide posted at the top of this page, to help educate parents on the dangers of inflatable bouncers and to review important safeguards to help protect children.
“Public health officials have warned about the dangers of trampolines for years, but it seems far less attention is paid to bouncers, which send more than 30 children to emergency rooms each day. Because many of these injuries are preventable, we strongly encourage parents to be aware of the risks and to follow simple safety precautions, like the ones included in our video and free downloadable guide.” says the Atlanta Injury Attorneys from Montlick & Associates CEO and Founder, David Montlick.
According to a recent study published in the journal Pediatrics, injuries from inflatable bouncers have skyrocketed, with more than 30 children treated daily in emergency rooms in the U.S. The most common injuries are fractures (28 percent) and strains or sprains (27 percent). Concussions and cuts are also common and 3 percent of injured children require hospitalization or observation.
Experts recommend that parents follow the basic safety precautions outlined in Bounce House Safety Tips (link to html of guide) from the Atlanta Injury Attorneys at Montlick & Associates. For example, they advise that children be 6 years of age or older, and that an adult supervises the activity at all times. The safest practice is to allow only one child inside at a time, according to the Child Injury Prevention Alliance. But if that's not feasible, children should be of similar age and size (weight).
Weather conditions also play a significant role when it comes to keeping children safe in bounce houses. According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, one strong gust of wind can lift a bouncer right off its mooring and into the air, and could cause severe - even fatal - injuries. So parents should always make sure the inflatable is grounded securely…and NEVER let kids play in or around them on windy days.
