Georgia Injury Attorneys, Montlick & Associates, Reviews Important Safeguards to Protect You on the Road as a Cyclist or Motorist
In Georgia, bicycles are required to follow all laws designated for “vehicles”. That means, by law, bicyclists must follow the rules of traffic signals and stop signs, the same as cars, trucks and motorcycles. In addition, new law helps keep cyclists safer. The “3-Foot Safe Passing Law” requires drivers of motor vehicles to move over at least three feet when passing cyclists. To help educate cyclists and motorists about sharing the road, the Georgia Injury Attorneys at Montlick & Associates created the video posted at the top of this page.
According to georgiabikes.org about 30 percent of bicycle injuries treated in emergency rooms involve collisions with motor vehicles, and just about one in 700 bicycle injuries is fatal. “Bike crashes in traffic are typically caused by avoidable errors. That's why it's important for cyclists and motorists to know the law, to take extra precautions when sharing the road,” says Montlick & Associates CEO and Founder, David Montlick.
Violation of a Bicycle Traffic Law in Georgia is a misdemeanor that can be punishable by fines and jail time. However, the real penalty could be serious injury or loss of life. That's why the Georgia Injury Attorneys at Montlick & Associates strongly advise that you educate yourself on rules of the road whether on a bicycle or behind the wheel of a car.
