According to a news report posted on motor1.com, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recall data for 2022 shows that Ford Motor Company issued more motor vehicle recalls than any other automaker.

In 2022, Ford issued 65 recall campaigns that affected over eight million motor vehicles in the United States. According to motor1.com, Ford has recalled significantly more vehicles than any other auto manufacturer in the U.S. auto industry.

The NHTSA’s data also revealed that motor vehicle manufacturers in the United States issued nearly 400 auto recalls in 2022, affecting over 25 million motor vehicles sold in the U.S. Ford has also ranked first in the total number of recalls for the second consecutive year. Volkswagen came in second with 45 recalls concerning more than 1 million motor vehicles, and Daimler Trucks came in third with 42 recalls involving 273,311 vehicles. General Motors came in sixth with 30 recalls involving more than three million vehicles.

According to Motor1.com, the month of November was particularly busy for Ford recalls. This is because Ford issued a half-million vehicle recall concerning its Broncos. Ford Broncos were recalled due to a dangerous fire risk. Also, Ford Motor Company issued a recall of over 450,000 F-150 pickup trucks due to a defective wiper motor issue. Powertrains were the most recalled automotive component in 2022. Ford Motors also issued a massive recall concerning 50,000 Mustang Mach-E electric crossover vehicles due to mechanical power loss issues.

Ford CEO Jim Farley stated that the company is improving its initial quality and launch. He admitted, unlike many automaker CEOs, that Ford’s overall quality hasn’t been “as good as it should and can be.” According to Ford spokeswoman Maria Buczkowski, Ford is deploying a comprehensive end-to-end process designed to increase quality and keep quality high in terms of production, design, delivery, and post-sale support and service.

There are typically multiple reasons why one manufacturer may have more auto recalls than other automobile makers. For example, Ford produces many new models, and new models have an increased chance of being recalled. Also, the more high-tech driver’s assist and safety features, the potential of a recall increases. Buczkowski states that Ford Motor Company doesn’t want its customers inconvenienced by issues with its products, and the company will continue to use recalls to keep customers safe.
