Little Rock Pedestrian Accidents Increase Substantially in 2020

December 01, 2020

According to THV11.COM, an increase in foot traffic in Little Rock, Arkansas, has been a contributing factor in the surge of pedestrian accidents this year.

In the City of Little Rock, there have been 115 pedestrian accidents so far in 2020. In 2019, there were only 22 pedestrian accidents. The increase in pedestrian accidents is believed to be the result of nice weather and more people exercising by cycling or walking around the city.

According to the Little Rock Police Department, there have been five times as many pedestrian accidents and fatalities than at this same time in 2019. The main areas of concern are University and Asher, which lead to many other streets and sections of the city.

Many people assume pedestrian accidents usually happen at night time. However, the article asserts that pedestrian accidents in Little Rock are happening around the clock. This is why people who are biking, walking, jogging, skateboarding, or using a scooter should use sidewalks and crosswalks. It is also important for pedestrians to remain aware of traffic, oncoming cars and pay attention to their surroundings. Many accidents are caused by pedestrians who are distracted by mobile devices.

The Little Rock Police Department stated that pedestrians do have the legal right-of-way. However, pedestrians should never assume drivers will give them that right-of-way. Also, pedestrians should assume drivers cannot see them and use extra precautions to avoid being hit by a car.

It is well documented that most accidents can be prevented with a little extra care and safety education.  Since 1984, Montlick & Associates has been dedicated to keeping children and families safe on the roadway.  Our commitment runs deep through our extensive, award-winning public service programs that provide people the information they need to avoid injuries.  To learn about our Don't Drink and Drive Campaign, Child Passenger Safety Programs, Booster Seat Campaign and much more, visit montlick.com and click on “community service,” or simply click here.
