We have updated our privacy policy. By continuing, you are agreeing to our terms.

All information provided about the law is very general in nature and should not be relied upon as legal advice. Every situation is different and should be analyzed by a lawyer who can provide individualized advice based on the facts involved in your unique situation, and a consideration of all of the nuances of the statutes and case law that apply at the time.

Who is responsible if I slip and fall on someone else’s property?

If you are a customer, delivery person, or someone else on the premises for a legitimate business purpose that benefits both parties, the owner has a duty to take reasonable care, including a duty to inspect the property to make the premises safe.

If someone is just a social guest or the owner gets no benefit from the person being on the property, then an owner may be liable only if he or she willfully or wantonly causes the injury.
