Montlick & Associates, Georgia Injury Lawyers, Issues Urgent Warning to Parents and Caregivers Regarding Recent Recall of Dangerous, Water-Expanding Toys

The official recall alert from the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) was issued in December, 2012, however, parents and caregivers are still largely unaware of the recall - and of the dangers these toys pose to small children and pets. That's why the Georgia Injury Lawyers from Montlick & Associates have issued a special public announcement, to warn parents and caregivers about the dangers of water-expanding toys.

In the video posted at the top of this page, Montlick & Associates Family Safety Advocate Jacquie Palisi warns parents of the dangers posed by these and similar products, many of which are still available for purchase in stores and online. The specific products identified by the CPSC are: Water Balz, Despicable Me, Fashion Flowers and Growing Skulls. These toys were sold in stores throughout the US and Canada from 2010 through November, 2012 when they were voluntarily recalled by importer Dunecraft Inc.

Water-expanding toys are a serious choking hazard because their original size is about the size of a marble, but they grow to the size of a racquetball when immersed in water. If the toy is swallowed it can cause severe blockages in the airways and digestive tracts, and could be fatal. According the CPSC, these toys cannot be detected via X-ray, and surgery is required to remove them. These dangers were highlighted when an eight-month old girl from Texas swallowed the toy and required emergency surgery.

Parents and caregivers are urgently advised to make sure that all toys which are small enough to be swallowed are kept away from small children and especially water-expandable toys because of the additional threats they pose. Close to 100,000 packages of the recalled products, manufactured primarily in China, were sold.

"This is a good example why parents and caregivers need to be extra cautious, when buying toys for children" says Montlick & Associates Founder & CEO, David R. Montlick. "Especially now that so many products are imported from countries that don't have as rigid safety standards as we do here in the States."

In addition to broadcasting the special warning to Georgia families, Montlick & Associates has also created a 2-page guide to help parents determine the safety of each new toy brought into the household. The guide is available for free download at Montlick.com. To download your copy, please click here.
