CDC Issues Warning Stating That Scooter-Related Accidents Are on the Rise, Resulting in Preventable Injuries

UNITED STATES – As reported online by www.wrcbtv.com, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) underwent a study that concluded scooter-related injuries have increased substantially, raising safety concerns.*

Electric scooters have become extremely popular in many cities and college towns. However, e-scooters have also proven to be dangerous. According to the CDC, head injuries top the list of scooter-related injuries at 45 percent. The second most common scooter-related injuries include upper body fractures at 27 percent, and lower body fractures accounting for 12 percent. The CDC’s study determined that the scooter-related injury rate was 14.3 per 100,000 trips.

According to the study, the median age of the individuals who suffered injuries was 29, and most of the injuries happened on the street, with 29 percent of the injuries associated with first-time riders and 18 percent involving motor vehicles. The influx in scooters has resulted not only in frequent injuries but also complaints about a lack of rules and regulations to help ensure safety for everyone.

The CDC’s study indicates that many scooter-related injuries are preventable, especially head injuries that top the list. According to the CDC, riders who wear helmets are less likely to sustain serious head injuries. Emergency rooms across the country are witnessing the dangers associated with electronic scooters, demonstrating that the CDC’s study raises valid concerns.

The CDC will present the study results at a future conference to bring awareness to the issues that have arisen because of the introduction of electronic scooters into so many cities and towns across the United States. Such cities and towns can then use the information from the study to help develop rules and regulations to make e-scootering safer for everyone.
