Attorneys

Ben Copeland, Esq.

My job is helping people through the most difficult time in their lives.

Ben Copeland, Esq., is a highly talented attorney who has been handling workers’ compensation and personal injury cases since 2008. Licensed in Georgia, he draws on nearly two decades of experience in both plaintiff’s and defense work, giving him a balanced perspective that benefits his clients. Ben joined Montlick in 2015 and has focused his practice on ensuring injured workers receive the needed medical care, income benefits, and justice they deserve.

Ben received his law degree from Mercer University, where he was awarded the prestigious CALI Award for Legal Research, given to the top student in the course. Prior to law school, he attended the University of Alabama, where he earned his Bachelor of Art degree and a Master of Public Administration. He began his legal career handling a diverse mix of cases in personal injury, family law and criminal defense, gaining extensive litigation experience and building a strong foundation for the client advocacy work he does today. Ben then transitioned to workers’ compensation defense, where he spent three years representing insurance companies and employers. This defense work gave him valuable insight into the strategies often used against injured workers—knowledge he now leverages to protect and advocate for his clients. Since joining Montlick, Ben has devoted his practice to injured workers, helping them overcome obstacles in the claims process and fighting to secure impactful outcomes.

Ben was drawn to injury law because he felt he could make a meaningful difference in people’s lives after an accident. After seeing the harsh impact of serious injuries, he made it his goal to help clients secure the benefits and financial resources they deserve, while personally guiding them through a very challenging time. Ben takes pride in practicing at Montlick, where he sees integrity in action each day and a team committed to putting clients first—and he reflects those same values in every case he handles.

His skill and dedication have earned recognition from both peers and national organizations. In 2018, Ben was named a Super Lawyers Rising Star in Workers’ Compensation, an honor given to a small percentage of attorneys who demonstrate excellence in practice. He was also selected among the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Civil Plaintiff Attorneys in 2022. He is an active member of the State Bar of Georgia’s Workers’ Compensation section and frequently shares his expertise, including as a speaker on “Evidentiary Essentials” at the 2025 Georgia Workers’ Compensation CLE in Jekyll Island.

Ben’s advocacy is rooted in his upbringing. A native of Montgomery, Alabama, he was inspired by his parents — his father, a 47-year union employee, and his mother, a teacher — to stand up for working families. That example continues to guide him today as he works to make sure hardworking people are treated fairly when injury disrupts their lives. His clients appreciate that he is also a hard worker who conducts himself in a caring, even-tempered and principled manner. He loves to go the extra mile for his clients to ensure they are in the best position to succeed after an injury.

Outside of work, Ben extends his commitment to service through volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, contributing to projects that provide safe and stable housing for families in need.

Since 2008, Ben has made Atlanta his home, where he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and son and their beloved dog, Lily. An avid cyclist, Ben enjoys staying active, travelling and exploring new places, while always grounded in his dedication to family, community, and clients.
