Georgia Truck Accident Lawyers, Montlick & Associates, on How to Avoid Crashes with Large Trucks

Commercial trucks are the lifeline for so many businesses today and key to a thriving, healthy economy. Yet, with over 25 years of experience the Georgia Truck Accident Lawyers from Montlick & Associates know that trucks and other large commercial vehicles are also involved in the most catastrophic of all road accidents. A vehicle that weighs 80,000 pounds and is up to 75 feet long can be highly lethal - especially in under-ride accidents or other collisions with cars that typically weigh only 3,000 pounds. In most cases, the occupants of the car will suffer life-altering injuries or death.

While most truck drivers are responsible, conscientious drivers, their grueling delivery schedules can often lead to driver fatigue. And there are other dangers, like falling debris or explosions from hazardous cargo. That is why it is so important to take extra precautions. Leading driver safety organizations, such as the AAA and the FMCSA, recommend taking extra precautions, including the following ones, whenever driving in the vicinity of trucks:

  • Always leave extra space between you and the truck. When changing lanes at highway speeds the average truck needs 700 feet-the length of 2 1/2 football fields!
  • Never speed up when being passed. Instead stay to the right and slow down slightly. This will get you out of the truck's blind spot faster.
  • When following a truck: if you can't see their mirrors, it means the driver probably can't see you. Slow down to create more space.
  • Since trucks create wind gusts, be sure to keep both hands on the wheel when passing or being passed.

Since 1984, the Georgia Truck Accident Lawyers at Montlick & Associates have made it their goal to be the best personal injury law firm in the United States. Our law firm represents families and individuals who suffer from catastrophic injuries, in all types of cases involving wrongful conduct and wrongful death, including those involving crashes with tractor-trailers (semi trucks or big rigs). Each state has its own laws as to what can be recovered as damages in these types of serious accidents. In Georgia, for example, a person injured by the carelessness of another has a right to compensation for pain and suffering, reimbursement for medical bills and lost wages incurred due to the accident, and in some cases punitive damages. There are many different sources of possible recovery for accident victims, and it is important that they all are identified.

No matter where you live in Georgia, if you have been seriously injured in a car accident or any type of accident involving negligence, drunk driving, or any other reckless behavior, our caring and compassionate team of lawyers is here to assist you.
