Georgia Injury Attorneys, Montlick & Associates, Reviews Important Safeguards to Protect You and Your Family from Heat-related Illnesses

Heat stress occurs when the body becomes dehydrated and is unable to cool itself enough to maintain a healthy temperature. If left untreated, this can lead to heat stroke, which is a life-threatening medical emergency. To help educate the public on the dangers involved, the Georgia Injury Attorneys from Montlick & Associates created the safety video posted at the top of this page; with important tips on how to prevent heat-related illnesses and how to recognize the warning signs and symptoms, including:

  • Muscle cramps
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Weakness
  • Headache
  • Rapid Heartbeat
  • Dizziness or confusion

According to Jacquie Palisi, Family Safety Advocate from Montlick & Associates, “It’s important not to ignore any of these heat stress symptoms, and to move out of the sun, into a shady or air-conditioned space right away; and to call 911 or emergency help if the symptoms persist.” If you must be outside in the Georgia heat this summer, the Georgia Injury Attorneys from Montlick & Associates also advise the public to follow these prevention tips:

  • Drink fluids, such as water, frequently.
  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol because the will dehydrate your body even more.
  • If possible, limit outdoor activity to the coolest part of the day, and rest regularly in the shade.
  • Protect yourself from the sun by using sunscreen, and wearing protective gear such as hats and sunglasses.
