Atlanta Accident Attorneys, Montlick & Associates, Reviews Important Safeguards To Keep Your Kids and Family Safe This Halloween Season

Everyone loves a good scare on Halloween, but not when it comes to child safety. There are several easy and effective tips and reminders that parents can share with kids to help reduce their risk of injury. To help ensure everyone enjoys this special time of year, the Atlanta Accident Attorneys at Montlick & Associates have created the helpful video posted at the top of this page.

According to a study by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), the potential for automobile-related accidents with young pedestrians increases four times on Halloween night, because of increased foot traffic and the fact that many people are out after dark. That’s why it’s important to remind children to use sidewalks and paths and to only cross at crosswalks. Carrying flashlights and using reflective tape on costumes can help children be easily seen by drivers. Children under the age of 12 should not be alone at night without adult supervision. If kids are mature enough to be out without supervision, remind them to stick to familiar areas that are well lit and to trick-or-treat in groups.

“This is such an exciting time of year for kids. It’s important to take a few simple safety precautions to reduce risks and avoid injuries during Halloween, where hidden dangers also come in disguise,” says David Montlick, Founder and CEO of Montlick & Associates. “In addition to keeping kids safe, remember to think about safety in and around your home, especially when it comes to holiday decorations.”

Halloween is the fifth highest day of the year for candle fires, according the National Fire Protection Association. For safety’s sake, the Atlanta Accident Attorneys at Montlick & Associates advise that you choose alternatives to burning candles by using flashlights, battery-operated candles or electric lights. Use flashlights in pumpkins rather than candles and keep holiday decorations, such as dried cornstalks, away from heat and open flames. Also, parents need to double check that childrens’ costumes fit properly and don’t drag on the ground or have long flowing pieces that could accidently catch fire if brushed up against a lit jack-o’-lantern.
