Man From Columbia, South Carolina Tragically Killed in Lexington County, South Carolina Accident
LEXINGTON, SC – According to an online news report at wltx.com, a passenger in a deadly car accident in Lexington County has been identified. He was involved in an accident by a hit-and-run driver who is now facing reckless homicide and felony hit-and-run charges.*
The accident happened in the late evening hours over the weekend in the 4200 block of United States Highway 321, close to Gardners Terrace in Gaston, South Carolina. Two cars were in the accident, per the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
A 1999 Ford Expedition and a 2007 Chevy Silverado pickup truck driven by a 54-year-old man were going in an easterly direction on United States Highway 321. The truck driven by the 54-year-old slammed into the rear-end of the Expedition, causing it to leave the roadway, overcorrect, and flip over. The Lexington County Coroner has identified the victim passenger in the Expedition as a 49-year-old man. The victim was ejected from the Expedition due to the fact that he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He was declared deceased at the scene of the accident. The driver of the Expedition also sustained injuries but is expected to be ok.
The 54-year-old driver did not stay at the scene of the accident but was later located. The man was taken into custody and charged with felony hit-and-run resulting in death, felony hit-and-run resulting in great bodily injury, and reckless homicide. The man was taken to a local detention center. It is not clear whether bail has been set.
There are no further details on the accident at this time. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
