YORK COUNTY, SC. – According to a news report posted online at wsoctv.com, a Grammy-winning songwriter was among the victims of a head-on vehicle crash that happened on Highway 5 in York County, South Carolina. The crash involved three vehicles, including the van that the songwriter was driving at the time.*

The accident occurred during the early evening on Highway 5, close to the Catawba River in York County. South Carolina Highway Patrol and WSOC report that at about 5:30 p.m., a Ford pickup truck hauling a trailer was headed westbound on the highway and crossed over the centerline of the roadway for reasons not known at this time. The pickup entered the eastbound lane and crashed head-on into a Ford van and a Jeep. The models of the three vehicles were not reported.

Following the impact, the truck and the van caught on fire. WSOC reports that the driver of the Jeep and a passenger in the Jeep were transported to a hospital with injuries. They were not identified in the report. The driver was reportedly taken by medical helicopter.

WSOC reports that the drivers of the pickup and van were tragically killed in the wreck. The driver of the pickup was identified as a resident of Kings Mountain, South Carolina.

The York County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the driver of the van was a man from Waxhaw, South Carolina, who was a well-known songwriter. This victim’s family also issued a statement following the crash, which confirmed he was tragically killed.
