Tragic, Fatal Moped Hit-and-Run Accident in Greenville County, South Carolina

GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC – According to an online news report at foxcarolina.com,amoped rider died after she was struck by an unknown vehicle over the weekend.*

Per the South Carolina Highway Patrol, two individuals have died after their moped was struck by an unknown vehicle in a hit-and-run accident.  The accident happened at South Carolina Highway 291 close to Hicks Road in the early morning hours.  

There were two riders on the moped, both of whom were not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.  The moped was rear-ended by a vehicle as it was headed north, causing the occupants to be ejected.  One of the individuals died at the scene of the accident while the other sustained injuries and was transported to an area hospital via ambulance.

The deceased rider has been identified as a 54-year-old female from Greenville, South Carolina.  The coroner indicates that the woman sustained multiple blunt force trauma injuries as a result of the accident.  The other occupant of the moped, a 53-year-old male, also from Greenville, South Carolina, died at the hospital as a result of the extent of his injuries. 

At this time, troopers are currently investigating the accident in order to find the at-fault driver and vehicle.  Anyone with information on the incident, or who was in the area around the time of the accident, is asked to call SCHP at (864) 241-1000 or *47.
