Two People Perish in Accident on Interstate 85, Three Others Sustain Injuries

ANDERSON COUNTY, SC – According to an online news report at foxcarolina.com, two individuals perished and three others sustained serious injuries following a car crash that occurred on Interstate 85 earlier this week.*

Per the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash occurred approximately four miles from West Pelzer on Interstate 85.  Troopers state that a family of four individuals from Georgia was going southbound on Interstate 85 in a 2002 Volkswagen when another driver operating a 2006 Chrysler was heading north in the southbound lanes.  As a result, the Chrysler hit into the Volkswagen head-on 

Troopers note that there were four occupants in the Volkswagen when the accident occurred.  The driver and a front seat passenger were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.  They were airlifted by medical helicopter to an area hospital for treatment. The two passengers in the back of the vehicle were not wearing their seatbelts, causing them to perish upon impact. The driver of the Chrysler was restrained by a seatbelt at the time of the accident.  This individual was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.  

The coroner has not positively identified the individuals who perished in the accident. It appears that there was a father and grandmother of the other two individuals in the vehicle.  The family of four was from Roswell, Georgia.

There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crash remains under investigation by the local police.
