October 26, 2021

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. - According to an online news report published on wbtv.com, a 10-year-old child was tragically struck and killed by a car after the child stepped off a Cabarrus County school bus.*

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Cabarrus County school officials sadly confirmed the fatal pedestrian accident occurred at around 3:50 PM, and the victim attended Mount Pleasant Elementary School.

Law enforcement officials stated that the child was in a driveway, and when the bus left, the victim tried to cross the street to possibly check a mailbox.  The report states that the child was hit by a Honda passenger car operated by a Mount Pleasant man.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the victim was transported to Atrium Health Northeast but tragically passed away later.  The Cabarrus County school bus was not involved in the fatal accident, according to school officials.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is currently investigating the fatal pedestrian accident.  The accident investigation results will be given to the District Attorney's Office to determine if criminal charges will be filed.
