Tragic, Fatal Accident on I-26 in Lexington County, South Carolina
LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. - According to a news report published on wltx.com, the Lexington County Coroner's Office positively identified a Georgia man who was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident on I-26.*
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher reported that the victim, a 49-year-old man from Alpharetta, Georgia, was traveling eastbound on Interstate-26 close to mile marker 127. At some point, the victim's motor vehicle crossed over the interstate's median and crashed into an SUV that was heading westbound. The victim's vehicle then collided with a tractor-trailer head-on.
The victim was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. However, he tragically passed away at the accident scene. The 18-wheeler's driver was transported to a local area hospital. The trucker's injuries were not reported.
The severe accident was approximately 11 miles from the I-26 and I-77 interchange and the stretch of interstate between Highway 21 and Old Sandy Run. The accident happened at around 1 in the afternoon and shut down traffic in both directions for three hours.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating the severe accident. No other details about the cause of the accident or why the vehicle crossed the center line were released.
