Two Tragic, Fatal Accidents in Lexington County, South Carolina

July 30, 2021

SOUTH CAROLINA - A news article published on thestate.com reports that three people were tragically killed in two separate accidents along the same stretch of interstate in Lexington County, South Carolina.*

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, a pedestrian was killed at the accident scene on Interstate 26.  A few hours later, two drivers were tragically killed in a head-on accident a few miles away, the South Carolina Highway Patrol reported.

The first accident occurred around midnight, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.  The 25-year-old man from Clinton was walking along I-26 to retrieve an item that fell from his motor vehicle when he was struck by another motor vehicle.  He was in the eastbound lanes of I-26, by 113-mile marker, when he was struck by a Kia sedan.  The 23-year-old Kia driver was injured and transported to a local area hospital.

At around 5:30 AM, a second fatal head-on accident happened on I-26.  The driver of a Hyundai sedan and a Jeep SUV was tragically killed in the head-on collision at mile marker 119.  The Hyundai was traveling eastbound when it was struck by the Jeep that was driving in the wrong direction.

Law enforcement officers did not provide any additional information about the drivers or why the Jeep was heading in the wrong direction.  No other accident-related injuries were reported.  The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating both accidents on I-26.
