Deadly DUI Hit-and-Run Accident in Columbia, South Carolina
COLUMBIA, SC - A news article published on wistv.com reports that the suspect in a fatal drunk driving accident was arrested and charged.* The report states law enforcement officers allege the man was driving while under the influence when he struck and killed a person riding on a dirt bike.
The fatal accident occurred last Friday at around 10:30 PM along Fairfield Road close to Crawford Road.
The 27-year-old man was driving his truck along Fairfield Road when he crashed into the back of a person riding on a dirt bike. The suspect then sped away from the accident, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said. The person on the dirt bike was killed. He or she has not been identified at this time.
The news report states that the driver was found, arrested, and then transported to a local area hospital for evaluation prior to being booked into the county for jail.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol charged the driver with felony DUI with death, resisting arrest, hit-and-run with death, driving under suspension, first offense, and driving with expired tags. The man was processed into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
