Three Tragicall Killed, Several Injured in a Head-on Accident on Hilton Head Bridge in South Carolina
BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC - A news article published on wtoc.com reports that the South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating a fatal, head-on accident in Beaufort County, South Carolina, early Saturday morning.* According to the Beaufort County Coroner, David Ott, at around 2:15 AM, a 23-year-old Ridgeland man was heading east in the westbound traffic lanes along U.S. 278 in his pickup truck. The 23-year-old Ridgeland man then collided head-on into a car. The accident sent the pickup truck over the Hilton Head Bridge and into the water below.
According to Beaufort County Coroner David Ott, the driver of the sedan, a 27-year-old man from Hardeeville, and his passenger, a 21-year-old man, were pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.
Mr. Ott also stated that two people were airlifted to Savannah’s Memorial Health, and another person was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital. Multiple emergency medical and law enforcement agencies responded to the accident.
All westbound traffic lanes along U.S. 278 were shut down for several hours due to the fatal collision. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating the cause of the accident.
