Fatal Accident on I-95 North By the Georgia South Carolina Line

April 14, 2021

JASPER COUNTY, SC - A news story published on wtoc.com reports that a fatal accident shut down all northbound lanes of Interstate 95 for several hours overnight close to mile marker 2.5 in Jasper County, South Carolina.*

The South Carolina Highway Patrol states that a sedan was traveling northbound and collided with an 18-wheeler that was also heading northbound.  At some point, the two vehicles collided and the 18-wheeler truck overturned, and the sedan's driver was tragically killed.

According to Jasper County Coroner, the driver was identified as a 25-year-old man from Pooler, Georgia.  The victim's autopsy has not yet been completed.  The news report states that the victim was the only occupant in the sedan, and the truck driver's medical condition is not known.

Traffic along the interstate was backed up for several miles along the interstate and backed up until the next day.  The roadway was reopened at around 6:00 AM and was completely reopened at around 11:00 AM.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating the accident with the help of the Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).
