Tragic, Fatal Two-vehicle Accident on Interstate 20 in Aiken County, South Carolina

AIKEN COUNTY, GA - A news report published on, a 51-year-old woman from Hopkins, South Carolina, was hit from behind by a box truck while driving a Mazda 626.*

The news report states that the box truck drove over and on top of the Mazda 626 while traffic was slowing down along the interstate. The Mazda then rotated in the interstate traffic lanes, and the woman was forcibly thrown from her Mazda 626.  According to Darryl Ables, the Aiken County Coroner, the 51-year-old was tragically pronounced deceased at the accident scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol stated that the accident happened at 4:16 in the morning along I-20 West by mile marker 13.  The driver of the box truck was identified as a 48-year-old man from Covington, Georgia.

The news report states that both drivers had their seat belts on during the accident.  The fatal accident is currently under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol with the Multi-interdisciplinary Accident Investigation Team's help.  No additional accident information was provided.  No criminal charges have been filed at the time of the news story.
