Troopers Investigate a Fatal, Truck Accident on I-295 in Hanover, Virginia
According to an online news report published on nbc12.com, the Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal accident on Interstate 295 in Hanover County, Virginia.*. The news report states that the victim has been positively identified by the Virginia State Police. The Virginia State Police were dispatched to the accident scene at approximately 5:47 in the evening.
The Virginia State Police reported that a Peterbilt 18-wheeler tractor-trailer truck was traveling in the center-left southbound lane when it attempted to move into a different traffic lane and struck a Grand Marquis. The tractor-trailer truck then tried to move back into the center-left lane and struck another tractor-trailer truck.
According to the Virginia State Police, the Grand Marquis rotated into the far left lane and hit an Acura MDX, and then crashed into a median embankment. The Acura MDX lost control and drove off of the interstate, down into the median, and collided with a tree, according to the Virginia State Police's press release. The Grand Marquis driver, a 70-year-old woman, was transported to the nearest hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants inside the Acura MDX were brought to a local area hospital. The passenger, a 54-year-old woman from Orlando, Florida, passed away due to the severity of her accident-related injuries.
The truck driver who caused the multi-vehicle accident, a 28-year-old man from Plymouth, North Carolina, is charged with "failure to maintain control" and "reckless driving." The accident investigation is ongoing.
