Motor Vehicle Accident on I-95 in Saint George, South Carolina (SC)

According to an online news report published on, the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) reported a serious motor vehicle accident that occurred along I-95 in Saint George, South Carolina.* 

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) stated that the accident blocked traffic along one portion of I-95 for several hours as emergency medical crews and law enforcement worked the accident scene.  The news report states that the accident happened at approximately 7:30 in the morning.  The accident occurred along the I-95 Northbound stretch near Exit 77.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol stated that they are investigating the accident and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

According to the South Carolina Traffic Collision Fact Book prepared by the Justice Programs Statistical Analysis and Research Section and the Department of Public Safety Office of Highway Safety, 1/5 of all fatal interstate accidents in the State of South Carolina occur along I-95.  The South Carolina Traffic Collision Fact Book also states that South Carolina's stretch of I-95 had a total of 1,883 total accidents in one year.  Of these 1,883 accidents, 376 accidents involved personal injuries and 1,487 were "property damage only" accidents.  Of the 376 crashes that involved personal injuries, there were 671 people injured and 23 people who were tragically killed.  

There are 11 interstates that pass through the State of South Carolina.  They are I-20, I-26, I-77, I-85, I-95, I-126, I-185, I-385, I-520, I-626, and I-585.  I-95 ranks fourth in terms of the total number of annual interstate accidents in the State of South Carolina.  Friday, by a margin of 30%, is the day of the week which most interstate accidents occur.
