Tragic, Fatal Rollover Accident on I-85 in Cherokee County, South Carolina

According to an online news report posted by gaffneyledger.com, the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating and reporting on a fatal I-85 overturn accident in Cherokee County, South Carolina.*

The South Carolina Highway Patrol announced the two-vehicle accident occurred on Wednesday morning and the accident tragically killed one motorist.  Dennis Fowler, the Cherokee County Coroner, stated that he had positively identified the victim as a woman from Elkin, North Carolina.  

According to the accident news report, the crash happened at approximately 5:07 a.m. and the accident occurred on I-85 southbound close to the 86 mile marker. According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Gary Miller, the driver of a Chevrolet Spark had made an improper lane change, and then lost control after the Chevrolet Spark hit a southbound Nissan sports utility vehicle.

Another person quoted in the news article stated that the victim tried to change lanes moving from the right to left lane and as the victim tried to move back into the right lane, the victim's Chevrolet Spark collided with another vehicle toward the rear of her car.  The victim's car then overturned onto the driver's side of the car and slid to a rest on the driver’s side of the Chevrolet Spark.  The victim was entrapped in her car until she was extricated by EMS and fire rescue personnel.  The victim was then taken to Gaffney Medical Center by EMS.  The victim tragically passed away due to her personal injuries at 6:55 a.m. 

There were no other occupants inside the victim's motor vehicle. All three other people who were involved in the three-vehicle accident were wearing their seat belts.  The accident investigation is currently ongoing.
