Tragic Fatal Wrong-way Accident on Interstate 385 in Laurens County, South Carolina Kills Five

According to an online accident news report published on radio.com, a catastrophic head-on collision that killed five people occurred on Sunday morning.*

The fatal accident was caused by a driver driving in the wrong direction on Interstate 385 in Laurens County, South Carolina, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.  The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the Interstate 385 occurred at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Sunday.  

According to the new report, the collision occurred when a 2014 Kia was traveling in the wrong direction along the southbound lanes of I-385 in Laurens County, South Carolina.  The 2014 Kia and a 2020 Hyundai collided head-on, according to a statement provided by South Carolina Trooper Joe Hovis.  The fatal wrong-way accident happened close to the town of Laurens.  

All five people who were involved in the head-on collision were trapped inside the mangled cars on Interstate 385 in Laurens County, South Carolina.  The victims had to be extracted from the motor vehicles using the "Jaws of Life" in order to be cut out of the severely damaged motor vehicles. Four of the accident victims tragically passed away at the scene of the accident.  The fifth person who passed away from accident-related injuries passed away at the hospital, according to South Carolina Trooper Joe Hovis.

There were three passengers in the Hyundai, and there were two passengers in the Kia.  Only one of the five victims in the accident was wearing a seatbelt, according to South Carolina Trooper Joe Hovis.  The news report did not release the names of the accident victims.  The accident is currently being investigated by a special team of accident investigators with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
