Motorcycle Crash Injures One on Highway 501 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (SC)

MYRTLE BEACH, SC- Wmbfnews.com writes that a crash injured one individual this week on Highway 501.*

The incident involved a motorcycle and occurred close to Gardner Lacy Road. Police stated that one other vehicle was involved in the wreck. The Horry County Fire Rescue crews arrived at the scene in the early afternoon. Responders rushed the victim to the hospital. Reports did not include information regarding the severity of the victim's injuries. 

Officials recommended that drivers in the area use caution as a result of the collision and the following investigation. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is in charge of the investigation into the accident. No details were available regarding the cause of the crash.

One of the greatest risks to motorcyclists is other vehicles and drivers on the road. Safety advocates often point out that motorcycles lack many safety features that are available in vehicles such as cars and SUVs. Such advice seems to indicate that without seatbelts, airbags, or an outer shell, motorcyclists face inevitable risks of dying on the road.

However, the lack of safety features is just one of the risks motorcyclists face, and other drivers cannot avoid their responsibility to share the road with smaller vehicles. 

Motorcyclists have as much of a right to be on the road as do larger vehicles. Unfortunately, distracted, inattentive, or otherwise, irresponsible motorists create many life-threatening dangers to motorcyclists every day. Drivers should be vigilant about looking out for motorcycles, checking their blind spots, and slowing down to avoid putting others in danger.
