Crash Involving Large Truck Reported on College Park Road in Ladson, South Carolina (SC)

October 01, 2020

LADSON, SC- writes that a crash occurred this week on College Park Road in Ladson. The collision reportedly involved a large 18-wheeler truck and an SUV. The early morning crash led to the closure of three traffic lanes. Police have not released details regarding the cause of the accident or injuries resulting from the incident.*

Crashes that involve large trucks are some of the worst collisions that take place on the road. Massive 18 -wheeler vehicles present a number of dangers to everyone. For one thing, large trucks outweigh passenger vehicles, and therefore, people in the smaller vehicle are more likely to suffer the most severe results involve an impact between their vehicle in a large truck.

Another issue is the fact that truck trailers are higher off the ground than are other vehicles. It is possible for cars to slide partially under the trailer of a truck. These crashes are referred to as underride collisions, and they often result in fatalities. Large trucks take longer to slow down and come to a stop then do smaller vehicles. Because of this, the risk of a crash involving one of these vehicles is greater than it is with smaller cars that are able to stop more quickly in the event of an emergency. If the truck involved does not have well-maintained brakes or if the roads are slick or wet, then the danger is greater still. Trucks in these circumstances will require even more space to come to a stop. When it comes to commercial vehicles, the drivers often suffer from fatigue. The shifts for truck drivers sometimes last as long as eleven hours straight. It is difficult to maintain the necessary level of focus when a person is behind the wheel for such a long amount of time.
