Crash Results in Multiple Fatalities on US 52 in North Charleston, South Carolina (SC)
CHARLESTON, SC- Counton2.com writes that a truck driver caused a tragic crash this week between multiple vehicles in Charleston. The incident occurred on US 52, close to Otranto Road. The authorities closed several lanes in the late morning as a result of the wreck. According to police officers, a Ford F-150 was traveling south when it struck a Nissan Cube from behind.*
The rear end impact caused both of the vehicles to strike the median and then move into the northbound lanes of traffic. As the Nissan entered oncoming traffic, it spun, and a Chevrolet SUV collided with its front passenger door. The driver operating the Ford continued in the northbound lanes and collided with multiple other vehicles. The pickup truck finally came to a stop in North Charleston. The crash killed the driver in the Ford and the driver in the Nissan at the scene. The driver in the Chevrolet was injured, but those injuries are not considered life-threatening. One witness reported that another crash occurred close to the Goose Creek reservoir shortly before this incident. The crash left a great deal of debris on the road, and workers were still seen on-site into the evening. Rivers Avenue did not open following the crash for close to nine hours.
When a driver strikes the rear end of another vehicle, the cause is nearly always a lack of attention. Rear-end accidents, which are often considered minor, also kill around 1,700 people every year in the United States. Drivers could avoid causing rear-end crashes by staying focused on the road. However, many newer vehicles have technology that is capable of stopping even more of these crashes.
