One Killed in Tragic Crash with Pickup Truck on 8th Avenue North in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (SC)

September 28, 2020

NORTH MYRTLE BEACK, FL- Wmbfnews.com writes that a deadly crash involving two vehicles occurred in North Myrtle Beach this week. The wreck occurred at the intersection of 8th Avenue North and Highway 17. Police stated that a Honda Civic was heading north and speeding when an officer saw the car.*

The officer was about to initiate a traffic stop when the Honda crashed into a GMC pickup truck. Responders initially believed that the drivers both had only minor injuries. However, while still at the scene, the 30-year-old man operating the Honda became unconscious. Responders rushed the man to the hospital, but he died before arriving at the facility.

It appears that the pickup truck was heading north and tried to make a U-turn. Reports stated that the driver did not yield to the Honda and that the two collided. The Civic struck the pickup truck on its passenger side.

Police do not believe that the pickup truck driver was under the influence at the time. The driver in the Honda appeared to have been drinking prior to the crash and had open containers in the car when the incident occurred. However, officers stated that the U-turn caused the impact.

Speeding is the cause of thousands of deadly crashes every year. Many drivers fail to appreciate how serious the risks of speeding are for motorists. For instance, drivers traveling too fast are more likely to lost control over their vehicles. In the event of an emergency, a driver who is speeding will not be able to slow down as quickly as those who are traveling at lower speeds. In the event of a wreck, speeding will lead to a more serious impact and worse injuries and damage to vehicles.

U-turns are also dangerous, even in places where they are permitted. Drivers often fail to properly gauge the amount of time or space needed to complete such a maneuver.
