Tragic Crash Between Motorcycle and Pickup Truck Kills One on Ridgeway Road in Kershaw County, (SC)

KENSHAW COUNTY, SC- Wltx.com writes that a fatal motorcycle crash killed one person this week in Lugoff. The incident occurred in the early afternoon on Ridgeway Road at its intersection with Wildwood Lane. The other vehicle involved was a pickup truck.*

Reports indicate that the motorcyclist, identified as a 67-year-old man from Camden, was died at the scene of the crash. 

According to the authorities, the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound when a westbound 2008 Honda pickup truck made a left turn in front of the bike. The motorcycle collided with the passenger side of the Honda. 

The motorcyclist had a helmet on when the collisions took place. 

The person driving the truck did not suffer any injuries in the crash. 

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the fatal wreck. 

One of the most common motorcycle accidents happens when a car makes a left turn in front of a motorcyclist who is trying to head straight through an intersection. The problem is often that a driver will fail to notice a motorcycle because these vehicles are smaller than the cars and trucks that most motorists scan for when looking to complete a turn. Another issue, however, is that as a result of their smaller size, motorcycles often appear to be farther away. The illusion that the smaller vehicle is actually a larger vehicle that is a greater distance from the intersection is often enough for a driver to mistakenly believe that he or she has enough time to make a left turn. More than half of all motorcycle crashes involve cars or larger vehicles, and the majority of those incidents are caused by the driver, not the biker.
