Boating Accidents Kill One, Injure Others in South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA- Wyff4.com writes that one person died this week in a boating incident in South Carolina, and several others suffered injuries on waterways in the state. The fatal accident occurred in Gilbert on Lake Murray. According to investigators, the operator of the vessel was attempting to dock but lost control when the engine cut off. The boat drifted into a dead tree that fell onto the victim. Responders rushed the injured person to the hospital, but the injuries proved fatal.*

A juvenile is in critical condition following a separate boat accident in Greenville County. The victim and another juvenile were on a tube that crashed into a boat that was docked. Both of the youths sustained severe injuries, the one who is not in critical condition reportedly has a broken leg. 

A two-boat crash also took place in Saluda County and injured four people. The vessels were described as a pontoon boat and a bass boat. One of the victims suffered severe injuries, but none of the injuries were considered life-threatening. 

Police stated that alcohol is not believed to have played a role in that boat accident. 

One of the most common causes of boat accidents is running out of gas. While in many cases, this can be a minor problem easily remedied by getting towed; in other circumstances, the results can be deadly. Running aground is another common cause of incidents. In some cases, the cause is drunk boating or speeding. Other common incidents include break downs, falls overboard, fires, speeding, and boating without maintaining the proper safety equipment. Of course, when on the water, the weather can also be a danger.
