Dump Truck Crash Kills One Near Ritner Highway in Penn Township in Pennsylvania (PA)

July 09, 2020

PENN TOWNSHIP, PA- writes that a man died in a crash in Penn Township when he was struck by a dump truck. The police stated that the driver continued to travel away from the site of the crash. When questioned, the motorist claimed that he believed that he had only struck a deer.*

The victim was identified as a 20-year-old man from Carlisle. The man had been walking with another individual in the very early morning when the truck, which was heading south, struck him. The driver then saw the damage caused to his vehicle and suspected that he might have struck a person. At that point, he contacted the police and is reportedly cooperating with the investigation.

Investigators are asking that anyone with information about the crash contact the state police.

Large construction equipment and trucks create many dangers for others on the road. Much of this equipment is enclosed, and the operators end up having difficulties seeing in the blind spots. With the large areas that are not visible to the driver or operator, pedestrians and those working on the ground around the equipment are placed at risk of being struck and potentially killed.

Blindspot warning technology may help to reduce the risks presented by large trucks and construction equipment. This feature will give a warning when a person or object is in the driver's blind spot. The warning can be helpful when changing lanes as well. Some newer technology will automatically maneuver around obstacles. According to consumer reports, this technology makes vehicles safer, especially in the case of large trucks with significant blind spots.
