Worker Dies in Tragic Accident at Bridgestone-Firestone Facility in Graniteville, South Carolina (SC)

GRANITEVILLE, SC- Plantservices.com writes that a worker was killed at a manufacturing plant in Aiken County this week. The incident took place at the Bridgestone-Firestone plant located in Graniteville. The victim, identified as a 58-year-old man, suffered injuries from reportedly being crushed. Responders transported the man to the Augusta University Medical Center, where he died shortly after the incident.*

The United States averages 4.4 fatalities, on average, per 100,000 workers. The safest state when it comes to work-related fatalities is Washington, with an average of 2.7 deaths per 100,000. The deadliest state is Wyoming, with an average of 10.9 fatalities per 100,000 workers. 

South Carolina has experienced an increase in the number of fatal work-related accidents. In 2016, the state hit a recent low in its number of worker deaths, with an average of 4.8 deaths per 100,000 workers. Sadly, the numbers have been rising since that point, and in 2019, the number increased to 6.9 per 100,000, which is significantly higher than the national average. 

Most work-related deaths are completely preventable tragedies.
