Hit-and-Run Crash Severely Injures One on Crescent Ridge Drive in Greenville, South Carolina (SC)

June 29, 2020

GREENVILLE, SC- Foxcarolina.com writes that a pedestrian is in critical condition following a crash in Greenville this week. The incident occurred on Crescent Ridge Drive close to North Pleasantburg Drive.*

Reports indicate that the vehicle struck the victim in the late evening and that a second car then also struck the individual. The driver in the first car fled the scene. The person in the second vehicle stayed at the site and waited for law enforcement to arrive. Responders rushed the severely injured victim to a local hospital where that person is now receiving treatment.

Law enforcement officers are requesting the public’s help in identifying the vehicle that struck the pedestrian. The car was described as a 1999 to 2005 BMW 3 Series. Reports state that the color of the car is not known at this time.

Witnesses or individuals with information regarding the crash, the involved vehicle, or the driver should contact the Greenville Police Department.

A 2019 study by Smart Growth America found that South Carolina was the tenth most dangerous state in the country when it comes to pedestrian fatalities. The number of people killed in these tragic crashes in the Palmetto State has been increasing each year as well. In 2014, 100 people died on the state’s roads. By 2017, that number rose by more than 50 percent to 154 fatalities.

According to Smart Growth America, the state has a lot of work to do in order to lower the number of traffic victims who die on its roads every year. The organization recommended that South Carolina implement a Complete Streets policy in order to ensure road development is conducted with vulnerable road users in mind.
