Pedestrian Crash Kills One on OJB Road in Plain View, North Carolina (NC)

June 24, 2020

PLAIN VIEW, NC - Clintonnc.com writes that a pedestrian was struck and killed by a driver in Plain View this week. The incident took place when the motorist, who is suspected of having been drunk, ran off the roadway and struck the victim.*

The accident occurred overnight on OBJ Road. The driver was identified as a 55-year-old man from Dunn who was operating a Chevrolet pickup truck. The vehicle reportedly traveled across the centerline and into the opposite lanes of traffic before the driver left the road entirely and collided with the pedestrian.

The victim was identified as a 32-year-old man who was also from Dunn. The victim was standing on the side of the road when the incident occurred. The pedestrian died at the scene.

The driver is now facing multiple charges, including driving while impaired and felony death by motor vehicle.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, drivers with a blood alcohol content of .05 percent have a much higher risk of being involved in a crash. Once a person’s BAC is above .08 percent, the dangers increase again.

In Utah, the legal limit is .05 percent alcohol per volume. In the rest of the country, the limit is .08 percent alcohol per volume.

The number of drunk drivers has dropped significantly over time, and yet thousands of people still die in the United States in crashes caused by alcohol-impaired motorists. The IIHS states that in 2018 alone, 7,144 people died in crashes that would have been avoided if all drivers refrained from getting behind the wheel when their BAC was above the legal limit.
