Tragic Crash in Lexington Tragically Kills One
LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC- Thestate.com writes that a tragic crash left one man dead this week in Lexington County. The victim, identified as a 38-year-old man from Swansea, was killed at the scene of the collision.*
Reports indicate that two vehicles were involved in the incident and that the victim was traveling in a 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck when it collided with a 2014 Nissan Murano. Both of the vehicles were driving on SC 6 at the time of the wreck. The driver in the Nissan was severely injured in the collision as well and was transported to the hospital following the incident. The surviving driver's injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Police stated that one of the vehicles appears to have drifted to the left of the center leading to the crash. However, it is not yet clear which of the two vehicles cross the center line, and investigators are still working to determine the direction in which the involved vehicles were traveling prior to the impact.
No one else was traveling in either of the vehicles at the time of the collision.
The state has lost 346 people on its roads so far this year. Officials are stating that a large part of the problem has to do with a failure to use a seatbelt. Out of the total number of traffic victims, 243 could have used seatbelts, and yet 132 were not restrained.
Currently, police have not filed charges in relation to this incident, and have not explained what caused one of the vehicles to cross the centerline. Sadly, the crash was just one of three deadly collisions that occurred in the state within one 24-hour time period.
