Motorcyclist Dies in Tragic York County Crash
YORK COUNTY, SC- Wsoctv.com writes that a motorcyclist was killed in a crash in York County this week. The evening collision occurred on Leslie Highway close to Beach Road near Rock Hill.*
Reports indicate that prior to the wreck, the victim, identified as a 28-year-old man, was traveling northbound on a Yamaha motorcycle. A Chevrolet turned in front of the bike, causing the two vehicles to collide. The victim was thrown from the motorcycle and declared dead at the site of the crash. According to officials, the victim had a helmet on when he was killed.
The driver operating the car also sustained injuries in the incident and was transported to the hospital. The condition of that person is not currently known.
Police have not yet reported whether charges will be filed against the driver and stated that the investigation is still ongoing.
A spokesperson for AAA in the Carolinas reminded drivers that with spring comes motorcycle season. It is important that motorists remember to be on the lookout for these more vulnerable road users as a minor crash can lead to devastating results when a person is on a motorcycle.
The AAA states that drivers should give motorcycles plenty of room on the road, especially as they may need space to avoid things like potholes and other obstacles that are more of a problem on two wheels than for cars.
As always, drivers should put their phones away before operating a car and refrain from ever driving under the influence. If a driver sees a nearby motorcycle, be sure to check mirrors and use indicators before changing lanes as these smaller vehicles are sometimes caught in drivers’ blind spots.
