Three Killed in Two Separate Tragic Crashes in Orangeburg, South Carolina (SC)
ORANGEBURG, SC- Wrdw.com writes that two deadly car crashes occurred this week on US 178 outside of Orangeburg. The first tragedy took place in the evening close to Shillings Bridge Road. Police reports indicate that a Kia Sport traveled through a stop sign at the intersection and that an eastbound 2010 Lincoln SUV collided with the Kia. The impact caused the Kia to veer off the roadway where it rolled over and then collided with a tree. The driver died in the incident.*
The crash also caused the Lincoln to enter the westbound traffic lanes where a 1988 Chevrolet struck it a second time. That impact killed the individual in the Chevrolet. Reports identified the driver in the Lincoln as a 51-year-old man from Cameron. That individual also suffered injuries in the wreck and was taken to the hospital. Police are still investigating that collision.
Just a few miles from where the first fatal wreck occurred, another deadly accident took place. The second incident occurred just hours after the first and happened near Stillwood Circle. In that incident, a Lexus traveling westbound left the roadway and rolled over. The victim's Lexus then struck a utility pole, killing the driver. Reports did not include the names of any of the individuals who died in the crash.
The Insurance Information Institute writes that seatbelts are one of the best ways to prevent fatalities in crashes. One reason is that they reduce the risk of being ejected from a vehicle. In 2017, about 83 percent of people who were ejected in crashes died as a result of their injuries.
