Dump Truck Crash Kills Two, Injures One Near Pageland, South Carolina (SC)

PAGELAND, SC- Fox46.com writes that a collision involving several vehicles left two people dead this week near Pageland, South Carolina. The crash occurred in the early morning on Highway 9 at its intersection with Dudley Road. According to reports, three vehicles were involved, including an SUV and two dump trucks.*

Locals living close to the site of the wreck stated that their home shook from the sound of the impact. One person was spotted being removed from the scene via airlift. Police stated that one of the trucks was traveling westbound on the highway while the other truck was heading eastbound. The SUV was on Dudley road and driving southbound when it entered the intersection. The westbound truck struck the SUV and pushed the smaller vehicle into the second dump truck. 

The person in the SUV was declared dead at the site of the collision, as was the driver operating the eastbound dump truck. The driver in the westbound dump truck was injured in the crash and was transported to CMC-Main via airlift. The images from the scene show the terribly mangled vehicles and debris on the roadway. Police stated that the horrific crash is still being investigated. Reports did not include identifying information about any of the individuals involved in the wreck. The Highway Patrol reported that they were working to notify the victims’ families. 

Intersections controlled by stop signs and traffic lights are not as safe as roundabouts. Studies indicate that by using roundabouts rather than traditional intersections, the rate of deadly collisions at intersections drops by 90 percent. Other crashes also occur less frequently when roundabouts replace stop sign or traffic light controlled intersections.
