Crash Reported Between Logging Truck and Car on White Horse Road in Greenville, South Carolina

April 10, 2020

GREENVILLE, SC- writes that a collision was reported between a logging truck and a car this week on White Horse Road. The incident occurred in the mid-morning at the intersection with Lynch Drive.*

According to the coroner, they were not aware of anyone having died in the crash, although they were aware of the wreck. Images from the scene show the log truck with a full trailer of logs and a badly damaged car in front of the truck. Emergency responders were on the scene in images as well. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash, and the names of the individuals involved have not yet been released.

Large truck crashes present severe risks to motorists in passenger vehicles because of the massive difference in size. These trucks are about twenty, if not thirty times, as heavy as a passenger car, meaning that the occupants in the passenger vehicle are more likely to suffer injuries when these vehicles collide.

The distance required for a truck to come to a complete stop is significant. These large vehicles require much longer to stop as compared to cars. The difference is even greater when the roads are wet or slippery. If a truck has poorly maintained brakes, then the difference in stopping distances may be even more pronounced.

Crashes involving large trucks killed 4,136 people in 2018. Out of the total number of people killed, 67 percent were occupants from passenger vehicles. When crashes involved a large truck and a smaller vehicle, the victims were those in the passenger car 96 percent of the time.
