Trask Parkway Crash Cleared in Beaufort County, South Carolina

BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC – According to an online news report at wtoc.com, an accident involving injuries was recently cleared.  The accident occurred earlier in the week in the southern lanes of Trask Parkway close to Poppy Hill Road.*

The accident happened in the morning hours just north of Beaufort, South Carolina.  It appears the crash may have been a head-on collision.  The identity of the accident victims has not been released to the public.  It is not clear how many individuals sustained injuries in the crash.

A head-on collision, also referred to as a “frontal” crash, occurs when vehicles driving in different directions collide with one another.  According to nationwide statistics, head-on crashes are more likely to cause serious injuries or deaths to drivers and their passengers.  The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that there was a 58% fatality rate for occupants of a vehicle involved in a front end collision back in 2017.  Most head-on collisions occur in rural areas, where thirteen percent of all rural deadly accidents are head-ons.  In urban areas, less than seven percent of fatal accidents are head-ons.

Sometimes an accident is just that – an accident.  It could occur due to vehicle defects or mechanical reasons such as a brake failure or an outage of power steering.  Usually however, a head-on collision occurs due to impaired driving, distracted driving, drowsy driving, unsafe passing, or some other type of confusion that arises, such as an individual who mistakenly enters a highway in the wrong direction.
