Man from Aiken Tragically Dies in Motorcycle Accident, Victim Identified
AIKEN COUNTY, SC – According to an online news report at wrdw.com, officials have identified the man who tragically died in a motorcycle accident over the weekend.*
The victim, a man, aged 54, from Aiken, South Carolina, was killed in the accident due to sustaining blunt force injuries. Currently, the man’s blood is being tested for the presence of alcohol and drugs.
Per the Aiken County Coroner’s office, the motorcyclist and his passenger were going southbound on Highway 19 when a vehicle entered the highway from Good Springs Road. As a result, the motorcyclist lost control of his vehicle in the nighttime hours. Both the motorcyclist and his passenger were thrown from the bike as a result of the crash. A vehicle that was going south on the highway accidentally struck the motorcyclist as he lay in the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident due to the impact of the crash. The passenger sustained injuries as well.
There are no further details on the accident at this time. The crash remains under investigation by the local police.
While motorcycling is a fun and exhilarating way to travel, motorcycles lack the surrounding protection that passenger vehicles have, which reduces the likelihood of serious injuries. As a result, motorcyclists, in the event of an accident, are more likely to sustain serious or deadly injuries when involved in a rash. In fact, motorcyclists, on average, are 27 times more likely than occupants of a passenger vehicle to die in an accident per miles traveled. They are also five times more likely to sustain injuries, of which are often serious and life-threatening.
Motorcycle crashes, as noted above, often have serious consequences and lead to serious and sometimes fatal injuries. Such injuries that commonly arise in motorcycle accidents include traumatic head injuries, spinal cord damage, bone fractures, to name a few. These injuries can have debilitating effects and require a lifetime of costly medical treatments and rehabilitation.
