Log Truck and School Bus Involved in Multi-Vehicle Accident in on Highway 9 Near Lancaster, South Carolina

LANCASTER, SC – According to an online news report at wbtv.com, a log truck and school bus, as well as two other vehicles, were involved in an accident on a South Carolina highway earlier this week.*

Per the Lancaster County Emergency Management, the accident occurred on Highway 9 close to Shepherd Lane in Lancaster, South Carolina.  Per local authorities, the school bus was approaching a stop to let a child off as the mother of the child was waiting by the roadway.  The log truck approached the bus and did not stop, resulting in a chain reaction accident  The bus went into the opposite lane of traffic and was struck by another vehicle. The mother of the child who was waiting by the roadway sustained injuries in the accident.

According to emergency officials, two individuals who were not riding in the bus or log truck sustained injuries.  One individual was seriously injured and was taken by medical helicopter to an area hospital.  Another person had to be extricated from their vehicle and taken by medical helicopter to an area hospital.  

There were fifteen students who were on the bus at the time of the accident, all of whom were evaluated by emergency personnel.  Two students and the driver of the bus were transported to a local hospital for the treatment of injuries.  

Upon impact, the log truck overturned and leaked approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway.  A hazmat team was dispatched to the accident scene in order to address the fuel spill.

There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crash remains under investigation by the local police.
