South Carolina Among Top Five States for Teenage Drinking and Driving

October 17, 2019

SOUTH CAROLINA – According to an online news story reported by foxbusiness.com, a recent study found that South Carolina is among the Top Five states in the U.S. for teenage drinking and driving. The study, conducted by Cheapcarinsurancequotes.com, analyzed data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.*

The data used for the study included the number of teens who admitted to drinking alcohol, the number of teens who reported drinking and driving in the last 30 days, and the number of teens who said they rode in a vehicle with someone who had been drinking. The study also looked for a correlation between teenage drinking and driving and fatal alcohol-related traffic accidents.

CheapCarInsuranceQuotes.com found that there was a “significant correlation” between the percent of teen drunk driving and the number of deadly drunk driving accidents in a state.  The Top Five states for teen drunk driving, according to the CheapCarInsuranceQuotes.com study, were as follows:

1. Arkansas – Data in Arkansas showed 10.7 percent of teenagers reporting drinking and driving and 26.3 percent of teenagers saying they rode with someone who had been drinking in the past.

2. Louisiana – Data in Louisiana showed 10 percent of teenagers reporting drinking and driving and 28.2 percent of teenagers saying they rode with someone who had been drinking in the past.

3. Montana – Data in Montana showed 7.6  percent of teenagers reporting drinking and driving and 19.8 percent of teenagers saying they rode with someone who had been drinking in the past.

4. South Carolina – Data in South Carolina showed 7.5 percent of teenagers reporting drinking and driving and 18.1 percent of teenagers saying they rode with someone who had been drinking in the past.

5. Vermont – Data in Vermont showed 7.3 percent of teenagers reporting drinking and driving and 17.9 percent of teenagers saying they rode with someone who had been drinking in the past.
